Double trouble: 2 countries, 2 via ferratas

Back to the part of the trip where we wear our helmets a lot 😉 It was supposed to rain today, so we got going early in order to not die on a via ferrata in a gorge. Instead of doing a big via ferrata high up in the mountains (they were closed because of snow), we did two shorter via ferratas in two different countries.

Our morning started off again at the bakery. The chocolate and vanilla croissants are so good. Plus, I can't get enough of that dreamy bakery smell. After fueling up on yogurt and baked goods, we drove to Austria to do the Rotschitza Wasserfall Klettersteig (via feratta). This route went along a mountain stream with several beautiful waterfalls.

The border between Austria and Slovenia. There is only a guard at the Austrian border - hmmmm...

The approach to the via ferrata in Austria

Putting on our gear at the beginning of the route

Why does Dan want to do routes that have warnings? This sign makes it very clear that you should not be on this route if there is a storm.

A fun water crossing

Another fun water crossing

We got quite wet from the waterfall at this water crossing

Lupine!

This flower is so beautiful

The via ferrata was actually at a mountain biking area with lots of flowy trails. This sculpture is made out of old grind stones.

A town in Austria near the Slovenian border. We liked the towns in Slovenia lots more.

Crossing the border into Slovenia - the toll for the tunnel

This tunnel goes under the Karawink Alps (Austrian and Slovenian border). It is almost 8 km long.
After returning from doing the via ferrata in Austria, we headed back to Slovenia to do the Mojstrana ferrata another shorter via ferrata. This one was a C/D route so it was a little more challenging than the other ones and super fun.
The route went up the hill that Dan is walking towards

A fun ladder - it was a wiggly

You can see the town below me

Made it to the top

The village of Mojstrana. Mt Stol is in the far distance (we summitted it a few days earlier)

We had a yummy lunch afterwards

The sandwich was huge!

The river Triglavska Bistrica here are a beautiful color

Do you think Dan thought the water was a little chilly?

Cold plunging - it felt so good I did it several times (Dan only did it once)

Can you see the rainbow?
After cooling off in a river, we headed back into Kranjska Gora to get some food and go back to our apartment. Can you guess which dinner is Kara's and which dinner is Dan's? Don't worry, I did get gelato this night - I just don't have a photo of it.
